The Ohio Valley Regional Coordinating Center includes University of Cincinnati and its collaborating hospitals and The Ohio State University and its collaborating hospitals. The network includes over 50 individual hospitals that provides clinical care and opportunities to participate in research clinical trials for stroke patients all over the Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Greater Columbus, and central Ohio Regions. Our faculty include internationally renowned clinical trialists who are funded PIs by NIH, PCORI, and industry, study coordinators, and scientists, with complementary skill sets in theory, design, and “real-world” experience regarding acute treatment, stroke prevention, recovery, and biomarker development and validation. We have led and/or clinically coordinated numerous NIH multicenter national and international clinical trials (ex: IMS I, IMS II, IMS III, CLEAR, CLEAR-ER, STOP IT, PRISMS, BEST-II) and observational studies (GERFHS, GCNKSS, ERICH, ROSE, BEST, VERIFY), in addition to industry trials. We have consistently been a leading enroller in trials since the pilot NINDS rtPA studies in the 1980’s to most recent NIH StrokNet trials. We have over 20 research coordinators with 100 years of collective experience between them. Our PIs and project managers facilitate this highly accomplished group’s involvement in NIH StrokeNet and foster a strong collaboration between University of Cincinnati and The Ohio State University academic hubs that spans clinical research and training/education.
